I once heard a successful Catalog Marketing Executive say, “It’s the start that stops most people”, which meant a lot to me when I first it. I totally agreed and understood what she meant because I was in the same business. And boy was I on a roll! I was way past the start and heading fast for the finish line that I had painted for myself, my worthy goal, my achievement.
Fast forward to present day and I have launched a new online business. I have started to build my online empire. This of course, is after watching, studying, researching and studying some more. And finally a few days ago, I made the first big step. My first online video. Video marketing will play its role in my business among other things, but I was so scared of putting myself out there. Terrified actually!
However, since then I have increased other marketing efforts, gained more focus and started to feel just a little fearless. And I believe I owe it all to that little thing called ‘Momentum’. It is so powerful! Really!
So I’ve put together some simple steps that I implemented to help me get my momentum started or get the ball rolling. I hope that this will help you to start something that you have been delaying or putting off.
1) Set a date and/or time Very simple, right. Schedule it. Then do not break your appointment with yourself, no matter what. Actually hold yourself accountable.
2) Don’t aim for perfection I know that goes against your typical motivational philosophy. But aiming for perfection leads to procrastination and more excuses not to get it done. And the idea here is to get the ball rolling, start the momentum.
3) Be flexible with limits Basically, if you set aside two hours for a certain task, but after the time has passed, you are not finished or feel like doing more, then just do it. Don’t hold yourself back too much.
4) Reward yourself Give yourself a pat on the back and a little treat or token to signify the action that you have taken in pursuit of your goal.
