In a previous article, I shared how to create a strong social media presence. Click here if you would like to check it out. So what’s next. This is a common question that I get asked by clients who are just starting to use this aspect of marketing in their business. I recommend a nice mix of informative posts/updates, inspiring posts, interactive posts, lead-generating posts and directional posts.
So here are a few basic tips to start using social media marketing in your business
1) Inform The people who are following you on social media have shown an interest in your area of expertise. So you would do them justice by sharing information on your area. Offer tips, answer frequently asked questions, share articles written by you or from an industry source, share resources.
2) Inspire Inspirational quotes are just that, inspiring. No matter what your expertise or industry, most people love inspirational quotes. They often get “liked” on Facebook and RTed on Twitter. Quotes are great mood-lifters which do very well in the social media space.
3) Interact Remember, social media is a community. Part of being a social butterfly is interaction. So aim to encourage interaction with your fans or followers. Ask open-ended questions, respond to comments, share personal pictures. Pictures of your lunch, view from your office, view of yourself at a speaking engagement. These are various ways of encouraging interaction and engagement that builds a good relationship with your followers who are prospective clients as well.
4) Calls to Action You can take things off social media by driving your followers/fans to informative articles, paid resources or offers or free resources like your Opt-in page to get your valuable freebie. The goal here is to encourage your followers to join your email list where you can communicate with them on a more regular basis, build the know-like-trust factor with them and share paid and free resources that can help them. From time to time you also want to post information about your paid resources directly on social media.
The community you build around your business on social media, as previously mentioned are people who have an interest in your expertise. You have an obligation to share paid and free resources and advice that can help them. Just like any relationship that you build over time and establish trust, you can inspire and share personal updates to show that you are genuine. Doing all of the above, in true authenticity will go a long way towards monetizing this marketing platform and increasing overall revenue.
