I have had the pleasure of working with clients who have turned their otherwise brochure websites into a true online hub for their business. Your business’ online hub should basically describe your business or how you work with / serve people, showcase your products and programs, showcase your word of mouth marketing properties or testimonials, invite visitors to speak with you to get more information and have a way for people to get in touch with you via the website.
Your online hub for your business should also contain a blog. The way that you should use this feature is to share articles, tips, resources with your growing community of prospects, subscribers and website visitors. This is your chance to shine. You can truly showcase your expertise through writing articles regularly.
So here are some very basic business blogging tips to blog successfully for your business
:
Regularity is key: Choose a frequency of blogging that is right for you. Be willing to commit to the same schedule for the short and long term. Frequency can be anywhere from 1 to 3 times per week.
Optimize your posts for the search engines: You don’t have to be an SEO wiz for this. Use strong and popular SEO plugins for your blog. Then do some basic keyword research for possible search terms related to your area of expertise and the subject area of your blog post. A great tool for keyword research is the Google Keyword Tool [https://adwords.google.com/o/KeywordTool]
Build Backlinks to your blog: This is another way to optimize your site for the search engines. This happens outside of your website, sometimes called “offpage/offsite optimization”. Backlinks are links to your blog from other websites on the web. Some common ways to build backlinks are: including your URL in all your social media profiles, leaving comments on blog posts written by others, guest blogging and including your URL in your bio/byline, writing and submitting online press releases to name a few.
Share on Social Media: There are many tools that allow you to auto share your blog posts on social media. This helps the viral spread of content and can attract new subscribers to your list among other things. However, you can share your blog to your followers on Twitter, Facebook, Linkedin, StumbleUpon, Google Plus and more.
Always invite your readers to leave a comment to interact with you about the post you wrote. This is easier said than done. You can start building up your comments by inviting people you actually know to leave a comment. Eventually your loyal readers, subscribers or visitors will leave a comment if you stay in the interactive mode and share great content.
Make sure you are building a list on your blog. Each time you write a new post, let your subscribers know about it. This keeps the traffic flowing to your blog.
