Do you have a free blog, hosted blog, hobby website or corporate website? If you are not a seasoned online marketer, getting traffic may seem like the most difficult thing to accomplish. I assure you that even for seasoned online marketers it can be very tricky. However, it is possible to put a system in place to get traffic to your website steadily, increasingly and repeatedly.
Here are some quick tips:
1) First, start with the basics Some SEO, Search Engine Optimization. This is how you optimize your website so that it gets found by the search engines when people use search terms related to your site. The 3 main areas to focus on are: Title Tags, Header Tags, Meta Tags and Alt Tags. Do a search using the Google Keywords Analyzer Tool, enter your website topic and you will see the keywords people use to find those websites. These are the keywords you will need to incorporate in your Title, Header, Meta and Alt Tags. Each website design tool will tell you where these tags go and what they are used for. If you have a blog, there are SEO plugins you can install which will help you to set these up in the settings area.
2) Pay Per Click Advertising This is the quickest way to get traffic if you have some sort of an advertising budget. The most popular one is Google Adwords. Once you sign up, you can stipulate how much you want to spend per day or per month or per click. You can also specify which geographic area to display your ads. And you can drill down further to specify the keywords relevant to your Ad and for which you want your Ad to be displayed.
3) Article Marketing This is a free and effective way to get traffic to your website. The idea here is high volume though. Submit 10 or more articles to popular article directories on a regular if not daily basis. The article directories allows you the author to put a brief bio with a link to your website at the end of the article. Article Marketing helps by providing more strong links to your website, so that it ranks higher in the search engines for your search term. The articles itself are keyword rich so that if your website does not rank, the article will rank and it still brings traffic back to your website. This is also a great way to build credibility for yourself in your market or industry.
4) Press releases Send press releases to announce your new website, teleevents, new services. There are several free press release services that are quite effective. Remember to spin the press release to be informative, news worthy and not too self promotional.
5) Link Exchange Exchange links with other websites in your niche. Provide a page on your website where you will link out to similar sites and ask them to do the same for you. This is a great way to increase your site exposure, credibility and page rank.
6) Back Links via Social Media Submit your content, audio, video or articles to social bookmarking sites. The more the merrier. However, in order to streamline and systemize this task more efficiently, choose your top 10 or so and work them.
7) Active Social Media sharing Share with your community and friends on Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn.
8) Start an e-Newsletter Place an optin box on your website or blog with a freebie to get sign-ups. Email them on a weekly, biweekly or Monthly basis with content and links to your newest blog or website updates.
These are just a few of the many ways to get website traffic. The important thing to note is that it takes time, planning and consistency in order to be effective.
